The Hon'ble Supreme Court, in the year 2006, ordered that all National Parks and protected areas in the country must have buffer zones, referred to as Eco-Sensitive Zones (ESZ), surrounding them. Furthermore, all states were directed to create Eco-Sensitive Zone Maps for their sanctuaries, National Parks, and protected areas. Despite Vanashakti's request since 2012, the state government had not declared the ESZ for the Tungareshwar Sanctuary. Following a six-year delay, Vanashakti petitioned the Hon'ble High Court of Bombay to instruct the state government to finalize the ESZ. Subsequent to the petition, the ESZ for Tungareshwar has now been notified.
