Save Aarey colony trees

Aarey Colony is a dense forest area, contiguous with the Sanjay Gandhi National Park, encompassing almost 1280 hectares of forest land or land with a forest-like character. This site is in conjunction with the National Park and boasts a rich biodiversity, housing two rivers, three lakes, and approximately 500,000 trees. It is also home to 76 types of birds and countless flora and fauna, as mentioned earlier. In an effort to safeguard this green zone from destruction, Vanashakti has filed a case in the Hon’ble High Court of Bombay to declare Aarey as a forest and has approached the National Green Tribunal to designate Aarey as an Eco-Sensitive Zone.

As the case has been heard, the proposed metro carshed project in Aarey seeks to demolish about 33 hectares of land and 4,000 trees. This has been vehemently opposed as part of the petition to declare Aarey as a forest.
