Welcome to
the Marine Debris Cleanup project for Malvan Coast, a dedicated initiative
focused on restoring the health and beauty of our coastal and marine
environments. Each year, billions of pounds of non-degradable waste and
pollutants infiltrate our oceans, threatening marine life, ecosystems, and
human health. Plastic pollution alone makes up 80% of marine debris, with
microplastics and other contaminants harming wildlife and disrupting ecological
balance.
Our
mission is clear: to tackle the pressing issue of marine debris with a
proactive, comprehensive approach. We will conduct systematic cleanups of the
Malvan Coast, targeting both visible litter and hidden pollutants. By
addressing this crisis head-on, we aim to safeguard local biodiversity, enhance
ecological resilience, and promote the preservation of our invaluable coastal
ecosystems.
Join us in
our effort to create a cleaner, healthier marine environment for future
generations. Together, we can make a significant impact and protect the natural
wonders of Malvan Coast.
Baseline Study:
Conduct thorough surveys to identify high-debris areas in consultation with
local fishermen, divers, and the fisheries department. This data will guide
targeted cleanup efforts.
Marine Debris Cleanup:
Deploy licensed, trained scuba divers to remove non-biodegradable waste from
depths of 5 to 10 fathoms, approximately 2 km from the Malvan coast. Collected
debris will be systematically processed at local waste management facilities to
minimize environmental impact.
Beach and Shoreline Cleanup:
Organize collaborative cleanup drives on beaches, mangroves, and rocky tidal
pools with local fishermen, schools, and community members. This will help
restore and maintain the pristine condition of our coastal ecosystems.
Awareness and Outreach Programs:
Conduct educational programs for local communities on the importance of marine
conservation and involve them in management efforts. Document local traditions
related to fishing zones to foster deeper connections and participation.
Installation of Awareness Boards:
Set up boards to encourage visitors and local fishermen to responsibly manage
and dispose of marine debris, enhancing community engagement in keeping the
coast plastic-free.
Recycling and Waste Management:
Partner with local recycling and waste management facilities to handle
recovered debris effectively. Ensure proper disposal of non-recyclable
materials to prevent re-entry into the ocean.
