Elephanta Island Clean-up Drive
Description
The Elephanta Island Clean-up Drive is part of Vanashakti’s long-running coastal conservation initiative, marking the 494th clean-up drive and continuing 17 years of consistent environmental action. This drive aims to protect the heritage, coastline, and fragile ecosystems of Elephanta Island, a historically and ecologically significant site near Mumbai.
Volunteers, environmentalists, students, and local citizens will participate in removing plastic waste, marine debris, and other pollutants from the shoreline, forested areas, and surrounding coastal habitats. The activity will also focus on preventing further pollution by spreading awareness about responsible waste disposal and the importance of protecting island ecosystems.
Elephanta Island is not only a UNESCO heritage site but also an important coastal habitat supporting mangroves, marine life, and bird diversity. Regular clean-up drives help in restoring natural conditions, reducing environmental damage, and encouraging community participation in conservation efforts.
Participants will assemble at Nhava Manik Jetty, Nhava Sheva at 8:30 AM and travel together to the clean-up site. Necessary guidance and instructions will be provided before starting the activity.
